Philip Read
Introduction: Philip Read is a Professor of Art and professional artist based in Jingdezhen(China) and New York City. Phil was born in London, England and grew up in Canada. He has extensive experience as an artist in the fields of painting and performance action painting. He has extensive teaching experience from Public Schools, International Artist in Residence Programs to Professor and Lecturer at University Art programs. Phil is a founding member of the Ink Path Group in Toronto, Canada that was formed to be active in community to promote contemporary Chinese Ink Painting with exhibitions, lectures, and performances. His earliest degree was in Industrial Chemical Engineering with a Major in Microbiology. Phil has bee in coming to Jingdezhen since 1989.
Phil was awarded the certificate as “Ambassador of Jingdezhen’ and is an ‘Honorary Captain of the Foreign Jingpiao’
organization in Jingdezhen. He has been recognized as a Master of Ceramic Art in China.
He has travelled extensively to Europe, North Africa, and Asia, which has influenced his artwork and cultural experiences. Phil taught English in Jingdezhen, China for 3 years where he has established a studio and studied the arts and philosophy of Chinese culture. His artwork has been sold at Shanghai Auctions and his work is collected privately and in museums in Canada, USA, England, Italy, Turkey, China, Taiwan, and Japan.
